I have a TekRAM BX, dual P3 motherboard, that I'm upgrading to two old-style P3-600Mhz CPU's. I have been running two p3-500's in here at 560Mhz (5 x 112Mhz, standard voltage, standard SECC2 6000rpm fans) without any problems for a while now, but thought I'd give this old box a last kick before I complete decomission it.

I'm not too worried about frying these 600's, but don't want to go so OTT that I damage other components in the box.

Motherboard: TekRAM P6B40D-A5
BX chipset, FSB steps of 100, 112, 133Mhz
(PCI 33Mhz at 100Mhz only, PCI at 44Mhz when FSB at 133Mhz)
Not tried softFSB, but think that this mobo IS supported.
Jumpered multipliers from 2.5 to 8.0.

PSU: Enermax 350W.

RAM: 2 x 256meg PC133 CAS2 Micron

CPU's are both: P3 600Mhz, 100Mhz FSB.
512kb level 2 half-speed cache.
CPU L2 cache: Misubishi 300Mhz memory, marked -3H.

Other (irellevant) components: MS Nat Kbd, MS IntelliOptical USB mouse, SB Live! (with CSW Dolby amp and 5.1spkrs), ASUS TnT V3400TV AGP, HPT370 PCI RAID card, 2 x 30gig Fujitsu 5400rpm FDB HDD on RAID card, 2 x 40gig IBM GXP60's (on RAID card), 1 x 13gig Maxtor HDD, 1 x 10gig WD HDD, Ricoh 12/10/32/8 DVD/CDRW, ASUS 50x CDROM (all 4 on motherboard IDE), adaptec 2940UW SCSI, 9.1gig UW SCSI HDD, Pioneer slot load 6x SCSI DVD, Zip 100 SCSI, 3com 3C905 10/100 TX, 3com ISDN PRO USB, USB scanner (Canon 630U), USB webcam (Samsung MC10), EIZO 21" T960, 1600z1200@85Hz with USB hub.

Thanks for any help or advice if you're able to provide!

I know the Katmai CPU's are NOT good OC'ers, but I'm not looking to spend any money on this box, it's about to go gracefully into retirement as my ADSL 1Mbps firewall soon and then get replaced completely by my games machine in a month or so.

I know there is an OC'ers database, but there's very little mention made of P3 600's there... probably with good reason.

laters!

I really don't see why you ask about this! "How far can I push them?" Just find out how far they can go! When overclocking, do it the right way.. don't boost it up to 750Mhz (or something) right away. You must take a tiny step at the time.. and everything will be just fine  When the computer becomes unstable, clock a little down. Then you test and test and test.. and if it's not stable yet, go further down. When it's stable enough keep it there :) Also keep an eye on the temp!
