I have a motherboard that is said to be built specifically for the Cyrix 200, 233 and 266 processors which are essentially the Cyrix GX processors. I have a Cyrix GX 233 and I was wondering if I can replace it with a Cyrix 300 MII processor. I know my computer can support the higher speed processors because I have overclock my 233 to 300 before and it worked fine. But I don't want to overclock it though. Is the Cyrix MII processor the same design as the Cyrix GX processor but with just a different name and faster??? If it is, can I replace mine with it then???

Thr Cyrix GX processors use there own chipset. While the Cyrix MII or 6x98MX use the genaric socket7 chipsets. The difference is that the GX has the sound and maybe video built into the cpu. Which needs a new mobo design.

So the answer is no. See if you can find a faster CyrixGX processor. Or buy a new mobo and cpu.
