the best dvd/cd-rom i've ever used is a Pioneer dvd 106s slot in...
but you gotta make sure your cd's are clean !

reasons:

- very silent
- stable spin speed
- reads for LiteOn/Toshiba/Sony inaccessible CD-R's
- really nice DVD Playback

i guess it's 44x/12x or so.......i don't remember the specs....
but it's a good one!

another hint: don't buy that thing as a retail version! it's too
expensive! in switzerland, where i live, i got
the bulk version for about 100 CHF whats among
$ 65.......will certainly be cheaper in the US.
but it's worth the money !!

:-)) but i don't know 'bout the brand you tell in your post :-)

I would agree with Holodoc.

I work in technical support for a computer component company and we sell, amongst other things, the Afreey x12 DVD and the Pioneer 106S (x16 DVD and x40 CD). The Pioneer is a far, far superior drive - definitely a case of getting what you pay for!

The standard Afreey CD-Rom drives also seem to be quite below-par performers.
