I was looking under program files and the common files folder seems to be just copies of stuff that don't seem necessary. Can I delete all this junk? Its about a gig. thanks

Mostly used for Microsoft apps -- Word, Excel, Access, etc. You shouldn't go deleting stuff unless you know exactly what you're doing -- there can be quite a few registry references to these folders. One GIG(?) tho sounds WAY too big. I don't understand that.

yeah it seems really strange. most of the folders seem normal except one. there is an adaptec folder with all of my desktop and windows folder files in it! they are almost duplicates of the real folders. this doesn't seem right to me. its like someone literally copied and pasted it in there.

Unless that's some kinda backup (for your whole OS, or your old one?), I'd say it could be deleted.
