I'm thinking of buying a new monitor... just for the refreshment. Anyway, are LCDs better than CRTs in terms of quality of display?( in general) I'm thinking of buying a 17" LCD monitor, is it worth the money for now???

Nah, just move ya.;)

And CRT is currently better, especially with text.
And not worth the money right now. You'd be better off getting a flat screen monitor.
The dpi for an LCD is about .26 to .27, while the dpi for CRT's can range from .23 to .28

I agree, I think there is too much hype on LCD monitors. Sure, they are great if you want to save some space on your desktop, but in terms of quality nothings can beat (a good) CRT.

I recommend the Sony G420S (19"). Listed at 429$ on SonyStyle.com, you can probably get it for less in a store.

Sony monitors delivers a high quality image and can last for many, many years. I still got a 12" Sony CRT which is really old and it's working like a new. I can't say the same thing of my NEC monitors. I had three in my life (a 14" MultiSync 2V and two 17" MultiSync XP17) and they all died within 5-6 years.

It's the same thing for my TVs... Nothing can beat the durability of Sony.

One problem i've experienced with the TFT monitors is that they can't show as much colours as the CRT ones, but this might have been solved the last years...

TFT's also leave shadows on fast moving images like games. It can spoil the gameplay if your constantly seeing ghosts.

Do you guys think these problems will be solved in the near future??
I don't know if it's just my eyes or somethin', but I think the colors on a TFT are much more "appealing" than CRTs. I mean, they just look better and clearer. More colorful, I should say.... Can someone explain to me?

Try this site to answer some basic questions about LCD vs CRT:

http://www.cyberscholar.com/vendor/current/samsung_monitors/specialsite/ace.html

It is a training website for employees of retail stores like Best Buy, CompUSA, Staples, etc. so we can learn more about a lot of the products. The link above is a Samsung training site so expect to see some bias, but the information is good.

I agree with your color theory. Despite what the specs are pictures look better on a good Lcd there more lifelike. But still For the price they really arn't worth it, Lcd's are just for show crappy resfresh at crappy relolutions. unless you just got extra cash and want to show it off :) Right now your still gonna want to get high quality crt clearity is amazing they really have come a long way since the beggining. givce lcd's a few years still relatively new tech.
