I'm about to buy a new machine from Dell and have talked to a sales rep and monitored their online site. I've been holding out for a better deal (ie, free printer, or free cd-rom to dvd upgrade, or free 10gig memory upgrade, etc.). Been told that this time of year, the "free" upgrade deals disappear because of market demand at Xmas. Am I being told the truth...it sounds plausible, but don't know?

I would think these deals exist, just not nearly as common on more commonly purchased systems.

Giving away *too* much stuff, can hurt your business in certain aspects.

I would agree. I think they may not do the free upgrades, because people are willing to pay for them this time of year. They know people are shopping, and don't need something to convince them what to buy. I dont think the problem would be shortages, since the only thing that has been short in the last 6 months was LCS screens and PIII's.

I contacted Dell sales about getting 7 new machines. The sales girl emailed me every few days asking if I had made a decission yet. I told her I could get more horse power for less money if I bought them locally. Also told her if she'd drop the 85 dollars each shipping charges I might but hers. She wouldn't budge. Gave me the ol company line about how competitivly priced their machine are...I bought em anyway http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif They're great machines.
