Fifo -- that's the name of a generic dog.

No, really, Fifo -- first in, first out. What that REALLY means..... I can only guess. But sounds like your HD drivers need changing. My experience is that you may have better luck trying your chipset-specific IDE drivers. You should be able to find them on your mobo and/or chipset manufacturer's website.

My hard drive controlers are currently set on 'single fifo' under Win '95 (ver C) and I would like to set them 'dual fifo'. Not that I really know what this means. Under win'95 (ver A)this could be selected for quite easily but is not apparently available under ver. C.

Like ver A messing with these settings tends to cause a lot of problems.

What is 'fifo' anyway, and what can I do to improve HD performance without screwing up my system?

My current drive is an 18 GB IBM 22GXP.

Thanks
D
