Running 2 western digital drives here. Have heard the WD has like the highest return rate though:(

Don't like Seagate personally, their HDDs are way too noisy. I'm now using a Maxtor, would've gone for IBM were it not for the recent problem with the whole batch of "Made in Hungary" drives.

WD, I've not used them before, nor have I any good comments. :)

WD

I had some post here regarding testing last WD series with latest IBM and Seagate, and WD showed best results.

P.S. Besides, "Western Digital" sounds really cool, almost good as "U.S. Robotics" :)

Western digital does have a way better name than IBM or seagate. What the hell are those suppose to mean.

I only ever buy WD drives, due to the fact I've had bad experiences with a few other makes.

I've got 8 WDs in 4 computers. Have not had any trouble with any of them except for the one 4 Gb that I bought used from Ebay. The other 7 vary in size from 850 Mb to 40 Gb. No complaints at all. Biglaker

SEAGATE all the way!!!!

I've always had Seagate and always will. Used WD at college in the labs, seem ok but they have a bad name for returns.

Never had a prob with Seagate.

WD is certainly all right.....i personally prefer IBM HDD's

but with seagate i did not make the best experiences....
especially not with seagate barracuda.

i have 2 IBM Deskstar 75 GXP in a raid....works fast and silently...

à propos silence: Maxtor would be an excellent choice if you
prefer silent drives.

WD has something of all......i once had a WD and i was very happy
with it! buy a WD :-))

The 2 Companys are the Best but i just can not deside with is "better"...

I wanted to buy the WD-400BB
but i got 2x 40Gb Seagate Barracuda 4
they make nearly no noise and are quite fast.

I read somewhere (Directron, I think) that all the major HD makers have essentially the same return rates. As for noise, my last HD was a Maxtor (20 gig), quiet at first but whining like a banshee after 9 months. I have a Seagate (40 gig, 7200) with the fluid bearing in my new box and it is still quiet after 4 months...but we'll see if it lasts.

Seagate Barracuda IV HD's are very silent and pretty fast. But not the fastet 7200RPM IDE disk on the market. WD disks can be a bit faster, but not so silent.. both Seagate and WD produce good disks.. the only manufacturer I'm keeping away from, is IBM!! I have read all to much about 75GXP's and 60GXP's dropping like flies. I wouldn't dare putting my stash on those disks! ;)
