I have recently tried to upgrade my motherbaord. But I seem to have a slight problem. The front panel power button cable connector is different on my new board. My new board is the 16 pin style connection. pin 10 and 14 not present on front row. But my power connection cable end has a pin 10 and wire 8 not present and my mobo has a 20 pin configuration. Are there many different kinds of connectors and if so where can I get the right one to splice so I can get this thing up and running?

is it an ATX case you bought, or are you using an old AT case with ATX power supply?
I would look in the manual ( I guess you have) and see where the cables are to go - it might mean a new Case in in order.

Thanks for your reply. No it's a full atx case. The only problem is that the power switch button on the front of the case doesn't have the right type connector to fit my new motherboard. I was hoping there was such thing as an adapter or something to convert it. look at my pic (http://www.auracom.com/~bromkey/c/new.jpg)
All power sw connectors on the motherboards should have the same size, have you checked your manual for the new mobo?

First , todays cases are normally wired up so that each circuit is wire seperately. The Power Switch,Reset Switch, HDD LED, Power LED, and any others you may have , will each have its own connector to plug into the mobo header. They are even marked for your convienence.
To find a single case header connector which matches your mobo header means going to the mobo manufacturer or finding a match in a used pc shop. Good luck there.
A good electronic/pc shop should have all the case switches and wiring needed to bring your old case up to date.
A simple, cheap solution is to remove each wire from the connector housing. Then put them on the header where they go.
The crimps will come out if you unlock the latch which keeps it from backing out. You'll need a straight pin or paper clip to lift the latch. Tape the ends with electrical tape. If the connection is loose then just pinch them with pliers until snug.
Of coarse , you'll need to know the new mobo header pinout. If you dont find it or ask around. You could experiment by jumpering the pins on the mobo, but .... not for the lite hearted or novice.;)
If you need help from here , just ask.

I came across this site for connectors
http://www.conwin.com.tw/crimp-1.htm
The type of connector is called 'Crimp Terminal Housing' . I noticed some double row type , available in 16 pin. Hope this helps.:)
