I have recently tried to upgrade my motherbaord. But I seem to have a slight problem. The front panel power button cable connector is different on my new board. My new board is the 16 pin style connection. pin 10 and 14 not present on front row. But my power connection cable end has a pin 10 and wire 8 not present and my mobo has a 20 pin configuration. Are there many different kinds of connectors and if so where can I get the right one to splice so I can get this thing up and running?

Nice drawings. I've worked with Gateway systems that had an adapter cable, but they don't sell parts. You might be able to get an adapter from your case manufacturer--I think the Gateway cable adapter came from Antec. Was the case originally an AT case?

Thanks for replying to me. You like my drawings do you? It was the best I could do to get my point across. Your right. The new MOBO is a gateway. I have no Idea who even made my original mobo because it has a pheonix bios and I can't get an ID on it. I wish I could get an adapter. Did my connection on my old mobo make sence to you? How many different connection types are there or does it depend on the manufacturters configuration? My original mobo was a micro atx form fact with a full atx power supply. My new mobo is an atx form factor with a full atx power supply. Does micro atx boards use this different front panel connector?

As far as I know, there are only two different connectors. A sixteen pin and a 20 pin. You can always put connectors on each wire and take it from there. :)

In that case, its time for you to learn about CTBIOS a nifty little German program that exams your BIOS and tells you who the OEM manufacturer was. It also provide model info. and usually gives you the manufacturers URL. :)
