I've read in a magazine that the last option for a socket7 mobo is to install a k6-III on it using 2*66 FSB. I've been trying that for several weeks and it's still not working. When I set the multiplier on 2*66 and the voltage to 2.4V the computer will not boot at all. All te components will start except the CPU fan. The CPU gets warm, so I think it's not dead. I tried to upgrade my bios but when I download the bios file, my flash utility tells me it's not a suitable bios file for my mobo (ATC-5030). It also suplies voltage from 2.1 to 3.5V. Jumpersettings for dual voltage are OK, because I'm running a k6-300 mmx at this moment. It also needs dual voltage.

What can I do ?. I already tried the CPU on another mobo and it's working fine.

My computer:

ATC-5030 (Atrend)
K6(1) 300@333
160MB PC100
20 GB HDD
Voodoo 3 200 PCI 143@166
Pinnacle PCTV Rave
Sounblaster 128
3com Ethernet 100 PCI
44 x CD ROM
4x2x8 CD-RW

Sorry for being dense, but I can't quite determine which cpu you are trying to run at 2*66. Is it a K6, K6-2 or a K6 III?... and what base frequency is the cpu...300?

Never mind, I reread the post, and the K6 III 400 is in the subject line. Well, I donno...most of the AMD cpu's had a remapping of the 2 times multiplier, but with a 400 mhz cpu, that would be 800 mhz?...I have never heard of a K6 anything running at that kind of an overclock.

I have just recently installed a K6-II, I am running the FSB at 2*75. The Cpu reads this as 6* which gives me 450mhz.
Information I collected at the time said that the K6- III would have no problem running at this speed.

The only other thing I can mention is that I had to set the J5 to cpu/2 mode to keep syncronisation between the FSB and the PCI bus, this overclocks the PCI and causes a few minor raphics problems but on the hole everything is ok, maybe you have a similar problem in that you have an unsyncronized condition due to your J5 settings

Hope this helps, although I don't know if I'm on the right track, I may have missed the train altogether.
