ah can someone help me with a problem..

my computer keeps automatically rebooting.. running chkdsk then rebooting again..

i think this happened 3 or 4 times today for the first time.. i don't know what the problem is..

i can be doing anything like chatting or playing microosft flight simulator 2002

i recently installed the game today and i'm not sure if that's causing the problem or not. is there any news of fs 2002 causing this type of problem?

here is my current setup:

athlon 1.4ghz
1gb sdram pc133
64mb video 4x agp (SHARED)
16 bit sound onboard
.v90 modem onboard
10/100 mbps nic onboard
300 watts psu
16x10x40x lg burner

any help given is really appreciated

thanks

Take out the nic see if it happens again or try another one, bad hard drive can do this as well as a defective power supply.

i tried all of them but the probs don't occur very often ;o

right now ive been going for a couple of days w/o an auto reboot using the same things

I would still try another power supply borrow one for a couple of days see if it happens again, might try updating the motherboard bios, take out some of your ram see if it continues try different strips 1 at a time.

You can normally tell if its a software problem because the crashes will have a pattern, like crashing when running certain applications.

Ive had this problem before.
After a while it just got worse till eventually it was crashing during boot up.
I opened it up and found that there was too much dust in the heatsink and fan. The fan was struggling The cpu was seriously over heating, I am surprised it still works at all, it was so hot I couldnt touch it.
I gave it a good clean up and that cured it.

Good Luck.

PS there is software that can monitor the temp if your chipset supports it.

i know.. i have those cleaners that spray like jet powered air lol i zap the dust out every 2 weeks or so.. i keep it very clean so i really doubt it's the cooling

i did have problems a couple of days ago with 1 game that i was playing, the game just closed on me i think trillian caused the problem because i noticed sometimes it happened when someone sent me a message thro it :o
