Need reinstall help...i guess;

I've had XP pro running with no problems for months..

I removed norton and it doesn't boot now, get file missing errors.

i used the cd for repair and have done fixboot, fixmbr, chkdsk and still get the same thing.

Isn't anyway of installing over my existing xp ?? maybe SFC like w98 or something.

I tried to XP repair feature. It was (supposed) to fix XP. What it did was reinstall XP over the original operating system. Then havok hit soon after. My start up/ programs menu didn't have anything on it. Half my desktop icons disapeared. Most of my programs quit running or pointed in the wrong direction from the destop.
Have you tried system restore. It will take you back several dates which you can choose. I would restore it back to before you Uninstalled Norton. Then find out how to get rid of Norton correctly. Right before the system gets ready to boot, press F8. The option should be right there.
