I was looking into an upgrade to a dual proc rig, but don't have the case to spare. I have a 1.33 GHz now and would only need an other to make it work.

When they first came out I knew they would work. Then the MXP chipset came out with support for only the MP modles.

If it dose, how long will it take before the board vanishes from the market?

An other help or sugestions would be helpfull.

Thanks

I didn't think the non-MP athlon processors would work in Dual Proc mode, hence the MP proc and motherboards.

I also dont think that a t-bird will work on a dual processor board

According to reviews on Sharkyextreme.com The T-Bird, The MP and the Duron all worked on The Tyan Dual CPU board they reviewd. It had the 760MP chipset in it this was before the 760mpx came out. All Tbird XP Duron, and MP cpus should work, but, only the MP is supported by AMD for SMP functionallity.

Here is Anandtech's review of the newer mpx board. They use 2 Durons as well as 2 1.2 and 2 1.0Ghz MP cpu's.They do the duron in both dual and single operation.

"The rumors are obviously true as AMD shows in their above roadmap that they want the future Durons to be used in entry level servers. Since the current Durons work with the 760MP chipset (although again, they aren't validated for DP operation) we are able to get a sneak preview of what to expect from DP Durons with the Morgan core later this year. " Anandtech

"Although Athlon MP is the only CPU that is validated by AMD for operation in dual processor (DP) mode, it isn’t the only processor that works in DP configurations. In fact, the first and only 760MP motherboard being released today was tested and debugged using regular Athlons with Thunderbird cores. Even Durons will work in DP mode without any problems, but AMD is only officially supporting configurations with Dual Athlon MPs. " Anandtech

Hope this helps
