At the moment Squaresoft won't be producing FF X for PC at the moment, the only latest FF game for PC would have to be FF 8.

Get the Plasystation version of Final Fantasy 9 and then you can play it on the computer using an emulator. It ran 5x better than it does on a PS on my old computer, which was only 400mhz at high resolution and all of the visual enhancements. The emulator was epsxe. And also, if you go by how FF7 and FF8 were ported, the it would be better to use the emulator even if they do make a PC version.

Just get a PS2, you cheapo. If you still can't afford to pay 300 USD$, just wait a while, the price is going to drop to 200-250 USD$ by March 2002.

I'm not gonna pay 200-250 bucks for a PS2 just for 1 game, i don't want any of the other games.

Does anyone know if i can use FF10 with an emulator? and if so which one and how?

Nope, there is no ps2 emulators out and doesn't look like any time soon.

The Ps2 is VERY, AND I MEAN VERY, AND I MEAN VERY (Again) COMPLEX.

Trust me you won't be seeing one anytime soon. Developers are stilling having trouble with the system.

isn't a PS2 just like a normal PS but on a DVD disc?

LOL! That's hillarious. The PS2 is completely different than the PS1. It's 100x as powerful, capable of 75 million PPS raw, 2.4 Gpixel fillrate raw, the PS2 puts the PS1 to shame. Contains 32MB (compare this to memory on a graphics card) memory over the PS1 2MB. PS2 uses a 300 MHz 128-bit EE, the PS1 uses a 33MHz 32-bit MIPS CPU. That's 300MHz capable of 20 floating point calculations per cycle, compare that to a Athlon which is 2-3 fp ops/cycle.

300MHz EE: 6200 MFLOPS (real world sustained performance)
2000MHz Athlon: 4000-6000 MFLOPS (thereotical peak performance)

Not only is the PS2 superior to the PS1 in every way possible, it even contains a PS1 inside.

The only options you have are (if you want to play FFX):

1) Purchase a PS2 now for 300 USD$
2) Wait a couple of months and get it for 200-250 USD$
3) Wait a couple of years and get it for 100-149 USD$
4) Wait at least 3-5+ years untill they release a PC powerful enough to emulate the PS2 and purchase it for 1000-2000 USD$.

so your telling me that a PS2 is going to be more powerful for any computer for 3-5 years, well, first of all why don't they put PS2 chips in computers, and sell them for 3 grand, 2nd of all, why are they so cheap if they are better then comps? 3rd of all, well, there is no 3rd of all but it just makes my statement look bold.

The 3-5 years is the time I estimate for a PC to be released that's powerful enough to emulate the PS2. To emulate, the PC has to be more powerful, about 3x as powerful. CPUs that rival the power of the EE could be available in 1-2 years, but just matching the performance of the EE isn't enough for emulation.

Why isn't the EE being used in personal computers? For the simple fact that a computer using a EE CPU would not be able to run any of the applications and all operating systems and system software would become incompatible. The EE speaks a different machine language than x86 CPUs such as those from Intel, AMD and VIA. Programmers and software developers have to start from scratch and Microsoft and many of the Linux companies would then have to start developing a new operating system to run on computers that use the EE CPU.

The chips that PS2 use are expensive, probably more expensive than the new AthlonXPs and the P4s to manufacture. The difference is that the AMDs and the Intels are sold for profit, while the EE & GS processors are mass produced by Sony and placed in the PS2. Sony manufactures all the components (except the RDRAM) inside the PS2. Since all the components are mass produced by Sony, they don't have to pay others (except Rambus) extra for profit. They sell it for no or little profit and even (1 year ago) below cost to the consumer. The money is then gained from the creation of a new platform and Sony makes hugh profits through the license fees on each game that is sold and developed. If Squaresoft sells 4 million (which they have) copies of FFX, Sony gets around 40 million USD$, while Squaresoft gets around 160 million. For every PS2 game burned to DVD, Sony makes 10 USD$.

While OEMs, such as Compaq, they pay extra, maybe twice/triple the manufacturing cost for CPUs from Intel/AMD, memory from Micron/Kingston/Hyundai, etc, chipsets from Intel/VIA/AMD, drives from Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc.

Basically-

When you buy a PS2, you're just paying for Sony to manufacture it for you and $10 USD to the retailer.

When you buy a PC, you're paying for Compaq, Gateway or Dell for the cost of components, cost of assembly and 200-300% extra that goes into their pockets as profit. Compaq, Gateway or Dell pay AMD/Intel for the cost to manufacture the CPU + 200-300% extra that goes into their pockets as profit. The same for the other compenents in the PC.

If you building your own PC, you're paying the merchant 200-300% extra that goes into their pockets. The merchant pays AMD/Intel for cost of manufacturing the CPU and 200-300% extra that goes into AMD/Intel's pockets as profit.

You could download one from www.epsxe.com (also follow the instructions to get it to work). You don't need any special cables, it'll run a PSX game on your PC through emulation. Just make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for the emulator. You may need a PSX style controller, since a keyboard would be akward for playing console style games.
