a gateway P4, 1.4ghtz system
specs:
40 gig HD (with 3 partitions = drive C, D, E, F
cd-r
cd-rw
zip drive
floppy (of course)
Geforce2 32meg, DDR GTS
SB Live Gamer
19" monitor
1 gig system memory (Rambus Rimm)
256kb L2 Cache
256 meg video aperture (? not sure here. it may be kb, next time i boot i will verify).
Front Side Bus Speed 4 X 100 (400MHz data rate)
Ultra ATA 100 Controller.
Dont want to change systems/motherboard/cpu chip.
I'm basically looking for a way to increase the through-put (faster frames per second) without spending a "lot" of money.
thanks, any input appreciated,
Kuasimodem

How much RAM are you running? What OS (98, me, XPhome, XPpro?) are you running?
If you're running Win98, increase your RAM to 512Mb which is pretty much the limit that Win98 can handle.
If you're running WinXP, go up to whatever the motherboard will handle.
More than likely, you're running into a shortage of RAM.
The only other option I can think of is a video card upgrade, like a GeForce3 w/ 64Mb DDR on it.

i take it that from your firs post you already have 1Gb of RAMBUS memory, so I guess the only real thing which would make much of a difference other than the CPU would be you graphics card, likeKuasimodem said.

Kuasimeodm, read the post man, he did say 1Gb RAM.
savagk, if you're running Win9x you're not using all the memory as it maxes around 512Mb. Up to WinXP. A GeForce3 is about the only thing to upgrade to really, that system is already pretty pimp. (I assume the HDD is already 7200 RPM, if not, get a new hard drive too.)

Thanks for all the replies.
I'm on WinME, for now...
So, am i wasting 512MB of the 1 gig memory??
WinME "sees" the 1 gig and its causing no problems (at least that i can see). Should i take out half of the 1 gig? At least i will have backup chips...
How do i setup 512MB of RAM??
Yes, I'm looking at the graphics cards, was hoping for price drop soon.. I just spent $350.00 on the memory, if i spend any more now, i'll be sleeping on the couch.

WindowsME might support 1Gb RAM. If the OS recognizes it (right click My Computer and see how much memory it says) then I'd leave it alone.
