Recently had my laptop hard drive changed and now there are a couple of things in Outlook 98 that are different & I cannot find where to change them.

First, I do not use the preview pane. I cannot find a global command to eliminate it. It looks like I have to go into each folder seperately.

Second, I have a problem deleteing old mail. I go to a folderw highlight the first message I want to delete and move doen to the last message and do a Shift/click. Instead of highlighting and deleteing, the disk drive goes into some serious activity and evetually stops. All that is highlighted is the last message. Now I can move back to the first one I want to delete, shift/click, and they are deleted. Never used to work like this.

Any help in correcting this is appraciated.

Which Outlook? To get rid of the preview pane, on the toolbar click VIEW and uncheck PREVIEW PANE.

The other problem (I can't seem to replicate in OL98) will probably require repairing your installation. If it was installed as part of the Office suite, you can open the control panel, click Add/Remove Programs, hilight your Office pgm, and click Remove. A dialog should appear that allows you to either remove or repair your Office install. When you choose the repair option, you'll be prompted to insert your disk.

Hope this helps.

To get rid of the Preview pane, do this, make shortcut from the Outlook.exe file. Right click the shortcut and select properties. IN the Shortcut Tab, locate the Target box. If the string, which should be something like C:\program files..etc, has quotes just type this outside the quotes:

/nopreview

So the string may look like:

"C:\MSoffice\outlook.exe" /nopreview

in the target box. Mae sure there is a space between the last character in the string and the foward slash..

AS for deleting, you should be able to either single left click on an email then while holding downt he shift key click on another email which will then slect both emails plus any inbetween. then right click on selected emails and delete. Another way is again single click an email then while holding down the CTRL (Control) key you can select emails that are not in succession.. Again right click the selected emails and delete.

Hope this helps...

PS another thing that will clear up some problems in outlook is the reset folders switch... Click on start, then run. IN the run box type:

Outlook.exe /resetfolders

then hit enter or ok..It will open Outlook. You may notice that there are duplicate Outlook installed folder such as Calander etc. You can right click on each one to determine whether it can be deleted or not...
