I was actually awake in lecture today, and my professor was talking about a new "Transmeta" processor technology that is supposed to come out soon. It's supposed to reduce threads into simple instructions that execute quickly, thus making the processors fast, while still supporting x86 instruction set. Does anyone know anything about this? It was really interesting.

This is actually old news. You need to update your professor!! Search on theregister.co.uk for transmeta and you will come up with a TON of links. They are a ver interesting company that produces a software controlled processor. Becuase it is software controlled, they claim it can work with x86, mac and other instruction sets with the proper software enabling.
They are also working wtih AMD on their 64bit processor with Microsoft, as AMD was uanble to provide a 100% acceptable beta version.
Much of this news is available on the regsiters site. one of my faves next to sysopt!!
