Suggestions on buying a motherboard off eBay?

I see motherboards that were intended for Gateway systems being sold on eBay. Well, I'm building (yet another!) budget system, and the low price is tempting. Are there any precautions I should take or anything I should know before I get one?

If it's not specified, then you'll want to confirm the form factor of the board. I know not long ago the big manufacturers used some really funky form factors, presumably so anyone having to replace one would have to pay a premium. Not sure if that's still the case today, but it's worth looking at. Best of luck!
