So I just bought a TV card that'll allow me to watch TV on my computer. My question is, and I'll find out soon enought because I'm just about to do it, can I just split my incoming coaxil cable that goes to my cable-modem? Branch it off and run it to the WinTV card?
Or will that mess with the level of input now going to the cable modem, and will that be a problem?

I have mine split many times. A two-way where one line goes to the cable modem, one to another splitter which is then split for 4 other tv lines. It all depends on your signal strength. If you are a bit low in signal, add a line amp on the side of the 2-way splitter that goes to the tvs. Try splitting it and if the modem is stable, you're set.
You may very well be able to get the cable tv without subscribing to it.....it's on the line anyway. I have heard of some cable companies coming out and putting traps on your line tho, I heard someone say they could get the pic but not the sound, then others get it all....depends on the cable company http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Yes, you can just get Y-Adapter to use your cable modem and watch cable TV.

There will be absolutly no decrease in cable modem speed. Cable modem uses a portion that is dedicated for cable modem datas only which is about 1/10th of the cable.

Doesn't work for me http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif There's somekind of filter on the line that comes into my room. It does work for my friend though...so I dunno http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Sure enough. Works like a charm. This is pretty cool, watching TV in one window and cruising Sysopt in another. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

What sorts of things would interfere with a cable modem's operation? I've got a Line amplifier, a 4-way splitter, in-line surge suppressors, and a DC filter. Could any of them give me trouble with a cable modem?
Nothing really that would be device related.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Jeff, usually a new line is run for a cable modem with no filters on the line. At least that's the case with Adelphia where I am.

Woohoo! And now, once again, I have a use for my beloved Logitech Cordless Wheelmouse...it's my remote control. Now I can kick back in the cushy rocking chair & put my feet up on desk chair, setup the buttons on the cordless mouse as channel flippers, and then it'll be just like...uh, well, just like walking into the living room and hanging out in there. (sigh) But for some reason it seems more entertaining this way. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gifuT
