I have an Athlon xp1600+ with a gigabyte GA7VTX-E motherboard after it has been on for approx an hour or more it turns itself off and restarts! Help why does it do this and how can I fix it? I'm a newbe to computers so if you can respond in 3 and 4 letter words it would be great!!! (but unexpected:) )

ME AND MY BEST FRIEND WAS JUST TALKING ABOTU THAT WITH HIS T-BIRD 1.4...... MY GUESS(SORY FOR THE 5AND 6 LETTER WORDS) HEAT.... WHAT KIND OF FANS DO YOU HAVE???he has only one cpu fan and a 64meg ddr vid card so he is silly but built this in chicago and i was in bc... so i couldn't help... lol

Most likely a heating issue. Check your CPU temps and make sure that the fan on you GPU is running properly. Check that your PSU fan is running properly as well.
Could also be a power issue, although less likely. If you know that you get unclean power in your area, consider investing in line conditioner.

My temps are CPU48 degrees C, system 37 degrees C and room temp of 23.0 degrees C is this too much for my comp...?I dont think power is a problem here!

I ended up with a problem with my ram fixed it and the computer works fine now go figure!
BTW I added 2 80mm fans and dropped my temps to 42 for the cpu and my system is at 33 this is with a athlon xp1600+ oced through the fsb to 1500.5 the fsb is at 142.9 and I am useing easy tune 3 I ran SiSoft sandra 2001te on burn in wizard and got a high temp of 48 on the cpu and 35 system I like it!

yes Everyone I did have a friend help me his name is Tyler and he thinks that he is GOD one fan went at the back of the case to pull air out and we put the other in the 2 unused cd rom bays pointing towards the cpu heatsink all we did is remove the front cover/expansion slots cover

what?!?!?! me *blushes* you can't be serious :rolleyes: whats that you temp went to 42cpu and 32 mobo.... not bad... lol still i tell you water cooling is the way..... hey while on that topic...
anyone know if you can run freone in a computer instead of water??? or will the air condinsate on the cpu and short it..... i want to get water cooling but have been joking aorund with the idea of freon or some sub 0 liquid.....
