My son wants to record his guitar playing for playback...how can he burn this on a cd....we have a burner...what do we need to do? Is a "special" mike needed? or can we use the mike that came with the computer for voice (that we never hooked up)....His guitar is electric, can it be patched directly into the pc?

You can plug the guitar into the PC, but you may need a small mixer or preamp to set it to the correct input level for best recording, I would try some where like radio shack for a cheep one of these. as far as you computer mike goes, you could use this to record the music, but it will sound fiarly terrible, as the ones which are for 'computer' use are a bit useless normaly.

As for as the recording goes, you will need some basic recording software at the least, but you normaly get a program bundled with you sound card that can manage this. And once you have the music on the PC, you can recorde it to CD but you will need the correct burning software to do so (I use a programe called MP3 CD maker which I think you can still get from here, (http://www.zy2000.com) bt it was I while since I got my copy, but it works with most burners), some of the programs that come with your CD-RW may do this but you may have to look elsewhere for a different one depending on the file format you save the music in.
