Here is my system
athlon xp1900
512mb ram
GA-DX mobo
G3 ti500
60 gig 7200rpm
i get around 6900 3d marks in 3d mark2001 default bench. I seem to think that that score is horrible. I was talking to alienware tech support and they said that there is no problem and that that is a very good score. So they will have nothing to do with it. No support. what do u all think? If you got that score with the same setup would you complain? I really need your input on this thanks.

IS that DDR Ram it better be.
Do the scores really matter to you. You have a very Nice FAST syetm right their if it is running at as fast as it shold be dont worry about your scores.

that is a low score for your system, but its most likely not a problem with your hardware in as much as it may be settings with your hardware.... have you disabled your vsync? you could be running the most taxing test on your system, which will bring your scores down as well so check the testing options as most people change them up to get higher scores rather than let it run default.

I don't think you will be able to get tech support to acknowledge there is a problem because of your benchmark scores. There are many factors that go into performance. The drivers of the chipset on the motherboard greatly effect scores. For instance, I have the VIA chipset and one version of the driver knocked my 3DMark2001 score down by a few hundred points. Lot's of variables involved.
Each component has a sweet spot. It is hard to find when one driver can effect another components driver.
I would make sure you have the default settings on the graphics card. If you don't know, re-installed the drivers and try it again.

Jimsteps right. Plus you will only get the highest scores if you know how to tweak the syystem to get that sweet spot.
Your score does not indicate your system is malfunctioning, but rather that you just need a bit of help to get it running better.

I would'nt worry about your scores. Alienware produces great computers and tweaks them just right. Your scores are probably at default settings and if you check around the net all responsible hardware sites benchmark at those settings.
You should see some of the things I do to get higher points. But in real life I dont run at those settings. Firstly the games would look horrible. Secondly it would damage the system to run at those insane settings.
All you will get is bragging rights and a burnt out expensive alienware computer.
They tweak for stability and speed. Sometimes you cant have both.

I just wanted to add one more point to tweaking the graphics card. The score will be low when you turn on all the fun stuff. So, the scores can be misleading. Yeah, I can run without anti-aliasing and low pixel density and vsync and ... My take is to push the limits of the card and enjoy the visual eye candy it has to offer.
