Currently, I have my PC sound routed thru an old bookshelf stereo that I had in college. It does OK, but I want the surround sound experience. There are too many choices. Could someone give me a link to a large speaker comparison? I mean you got:
FPS1000/2000
ACS54/56
DTT2200/2500/3500
ADA880/885
ON and ON and ON
I can't figure it out. What should I be looking for? What's going to give the best gaming and DVD experience?

Hi,

Personnaly, I would go for the Videologic DigiTheatre DTS (http://www.videologic.com/ProductInfo/DigiTheatreDTS.htm) .
They are a bit expensive but they look really good...

You might want to go to CNET.com and look for reviews. I like Cambridge Soundworks myself (although a little cheaper since Creative Labs bought them). They have very nice surround systems for fairly decent prices. http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/

It may be a matter of how good a listener you are!
The problem with buying speakers is they have to sound good to you in your own setting. The reviews and recommendations from others are good info, but it still comes down to your ears in your listening area.

<sigh> if I had the budget and if my girlfriend didn't hate bass...

Ygor is 100% right!!!

You HAVE to listen to it at YOUR house. Before I bought a sub, I looked at reviews for the Klipsch 12" and 15". Many, many people said the 12" was more than enough and the 15" was way, way too much for music. I bought the 12" and was not satisified. Returned it and got the 15" model two days ago. It's excellent!

You have to listen to it yourself. You can get a baseline opinion about what is good/bad from reviews, but for the final decisions, you have to listen to it yourself. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I can't give you any advice about pc speaker setups because I am a "real" stereo man, myself (amplifier, big subwoofer, etc.)

Good luck http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

*edit*
Advice I gave to someone else and about my setup (before I got 15" subwoofer). http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/009365.html

When you want big sound you need big wattage and big speakers. I have a great old sound system, a separate power amp/preamp with a set of efficient speakers, 15" woofers and a horn/dome tweeter. For my computer I am content with a smaller amp and smaller speakers, they do the trick for me and still blows away any computer speakers with those little built-in amps.
