i would just like to ask the opinion of anyone out there who may have some knowledge of operating systems. i plan to reformat soon and install a new OS. i have access to both windows 2000 professional and windows mellenium edition. i'm just wondering which one is better for me? i use the computer mainly for gaming and mp3s.....things of that nature, nothing too complicated at all. and if my memory serves me correct mellenium edition was really buggy and crashed alot. well before i confuse myself further :p i was just wondering if you fine people could give me some insight as to which one would be better for me. thanks in advance :)

Hello,

They both have there better points. (I think Win ME has some, haha) W2K wasnt really the greatest for gaming, but is very stable and good security. Win ME on the other hand, supports more games, but i couldnt wait to get rid of Win ME just cause of how unstable it was, always freezing on me.

Both work fine for MP3's, whether your burning, ripping or just downloading and listening.

Better for you: Win ME would probably better suit you. (cause of the gaming) But, whereas formatting is very easy, and not to time consuming, you could always try W2K, install a few games, see if they are compatiable, and if the mojaroity of your games arent, then format again and go with Win ME.

My 2 cents: Go with W2K, and if you can, upgrade to XP sometime, XP is like having 98se and W2K in one, its great, i have nothing but good things to say about XP.

Hope this helps... I'm sure there will be other reply's to help you with also.

I used to use Win 2K and its very stable, but its not good with games. I played Max Payne on it will all the patches and updates for both game and OS and it still hangs while playing.

I have used Win ME for a day only as i didn't like. ( I couldn't play CS than, so i formatted back to Win 98.)

As Logik mentioned, if you can go for Win XP.

Stable and good with games.

:p

thanks alot you guys. i installed w2k pro and it is very stable. it runs counter-strike great (hopefully neverwinter nights when it gets here too :D ) and it hasn't crashed yet. i don't know if it was a hardware conflict or what but i did have windows XP professional installed but it was giving me some serious problems. it kept crashing and freezing...... i couldn't even play an mp3 all the way through before the **** thing locked up. no big deal though, XP is great i'm sure but i'm not sure if i could utilize all those features to a better benefit........2000 pro is just as useful right now.

I use to have ME which I found stable for me, But it was slower at gaming than Win98SE.
I've upgraded to Win2000 PRO and it is in my mind any the best OS for gaming at the moment.
Well until makers get upto spend with patches etc for Xp.
Not upgrading to XP until there is least sevice pack 2.

Best OS for games and MP3 is Win 98se... unless you have an up to date PC (Like less than 6 months old) then Win XP is the way to go. I installed Win XP but so many hardware and driver conflicts I switched back to Win 98se.. good luck..

I also think Win98 is the way to go for games, but why MP3's? Could explain that in detail, badgern? Thanks! :)
