I have a first stage interview with IBM in a couple of weeks. It involves doing loads of apptitude tests and IQ test and logic tests and stuff to see if you are going to be good enough to then go through to the next stage and have a proper interview. Sort of seperating out the drose to save time in the interviews.

anyway is there anyone who knows any web pages or anything else that might be useful to practice these sorts of test, just to get my mind into the right line of thought.
Cheers

This is our UK MENSA (The high IQ society) website. I think there are some puzzles and IQ tests on there somewhere.

Have fun.

Rod, I went through those tests 2 years ago. Very basic. They are to weed out total idiots and people who can't understand English. I would relate them to, say, high school minimum skills type of testing. If you have a decent IQ and good comprehension, you should breeze through. I have a 140 IQ and the questions almost insulted my intellegence!

I didn't get IQ/puzzle tested when I was interviewing for IBM about a year ago. I was right out of college and I had heard about my friends being put through those with Microsoft and Arthur Andersen, etc. Anyway, my interviews were pretty standard/typical interviews about relevant work experience and skills. I guess it really depends on which of our divisions you're interviewing for or even who it is with. Just curious, what position and where? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

There's a free IQ test at http://www.iqtest.com/ that should give you a feel for how these things work. Good luck!

Thanks guys,
I thought they'd be pretty basic but i would really like to work for IBM so i was just wanting to be prepared. The interview is just the general intake for graduates etc and once your through it you can choose which group you want to get interviewed for or something. Not really 100% sure as i just happened across them at our career service the other day and gave them my CV.

I took an IBM test about 10 years (real up to date, aren't I), anyway, I would think they probably still use it....

The test was timed (very tough to ever finish a section) and very basic (as described above). Very big on math, not calculus, algebra. The test is basically a logic test. There a bunch of basic math computation problems test. There were a few tests that had logic puzzles and one for patterns (what symbol is next) and series (what number/letter next). Overall, I think there was maybe 10 test over a couple of hours.

As stated above, it was used to determine who the logical thinkers were and having experienced it myself, I would think it does a good job. Funny thing, is on a previous interview, I had actually taken one of the test I describe above, so others use these tests also.

Good luck.
