stumbled across this tip tonite, and since i dont have any usb devices i disabled my controller and wow..the tip said it would make my bootimes a little faster, restart was quite a bit faster..but it feels like i gained alot of speed..why couldnt i have learned this long ago.
I have noticed the usb scanner whiring a bit at start up after I'm in windows but I havnt really noticed any speed difference with or without the scanner & joystick connected or disconnected when it comes to bootup. I've tried disabling the usb in bios with the same result. Maybe other combinations of components or peripherals have different responce times depending on the amount of extra adapters, usb ports etc. I have a fairly basic (& slow) system so I dont notice too much with increases or decreases in boot time.
Yeah, disabling the USB does make booting time faster due to the fact that the OS won't have to waste additional time looking for devices on the USB port.
SCSI based systems are also slower on bootups, because hardware(s) need to be detected for the OS to access the devices.
But as for CPU performing faster because the USB port or SCSI devices don't exist would be untrue. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

well thats why i had a question mark beside the title,i cant see it increasing cpu performance, but at least i found out to turn off something i dont need.
