I am not sure how the name registering thing works but this is what I want to do. The name I want is available. I want to specify an ip number (my local machine where I run a server) to this name. Who can do this for me and what kind of cost is it. I don't need space just the name and a way to route traffic from the domain name to an IP or if need be my isp space like www.isp/~myspace. Thanks for any help. Alot of companies want to give you so much other B.S.

Namezero.com might still do this. They had something where you got a domain name for like a year, and you could point it to wherever you want if you paid. If not, you had their adds. But I dont think they have the free thing anymore, so they might not have that pay re-direct yet, but its still worth a look.

Other than that, you might have to do it in a 2 step process. Register the name with someone, and then look for a company that does re-directs.

So these places that reister your domain name cheap really is useless unless you have a way to route the name. So that is where they make up the cash.

I havent personally seen one yet that does both. They usually say you can pay some company to redirect it. I know a couple people who have done this. Let me try to get ahold of them and see how they did it.
