Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : how do I edit the start menu graphic?
<IMG SRC="http://members.home.net/cam-t/startmenu.jpg" border=0>
The black to blue fade along the left side. I'd like to jazz it up a bit.
I did a search but couldn't find any threads about this.
I'm guessing Outpatient knows how to do this!

I think your talking about hex editing the explorer.exe file, but here may be the "lazy way" http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
I haven't tried this utility yet, but it claims to change that vertical bitmap.
There is a link on the very top of the page to where people submit "jazzed up" .bmp's but the sites are Japanese and hard to navigate.
I'll assume you could make your own and replace the one on the start menu. http://homepage1.nifty.com/kazubon/tclock/indexe.html

edit- If you download the zip file, the readme doesn't mention ME so I'm not sure. It lists '95, '98 and NT. -edit

How about WindowBlinds? You could revamp the entire system's apperance that way. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I've got the 2.0 Enhanced version, but I need to breakdown and buy the more powerful Object Desktop. Check out the options offered.
Just a Thought,
Robert Richmond
Thanks Dave, I'll check it out. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Window blinds is very cool...very. However, it's a little cumbersome I find. Though 2 is way better. It's cool that they're starting to support hardware acceleration...or did I read that wrong? I saw some option for G400 support, or something...I don't remember!
Those Icons are actully from IconPackager...a component of the object desktop

well that looks cool enough for now http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Though the colours don't really go with the icons.
Ha, too much time on my hands??? yup yup! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I have to keep the prog running to keep the graphic, but it's only 81k I belive. And you can opt to not have it change the clock. YOu can change the start button with this prog as well.
Thanks a lot Dave!

Isn't it possible to simply replace the BMP file with the one you have created. The only information you need is the name of the BMP image. I searched my HD for .bmp and just looked. Then I created my own image and renamed it to the original start BMP file. Let me know if this works, I have been tweaking my own windows design http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Best,
TechJumper
Well that is what I would like to do...what is the file name?

I've been watching this thread and I hope someone answers the file name question soon.
Cheers!
I've looked for the file and can't find it.

Okay, thanks to Dave_H, A permanent solution has been found!
What I did is I created my bmp using the size of the banner in a screen shot. Then back up Explorer.exe. Then download the shareware Restorator (http://www.bome.com/Restorator/download.html) . Open Explorer.exe with it, and in the Bitmaps folder, you'll find the banner graphic (161 for ME). Then what I did was rename my new banner to 161.bmp, then you use Restorator to assign the new banner (right click on 161 in Restorator and assign). Then save it as explorer1. Then, in dos, rename explorer.exe to explorer.bak and explorer1.exe (or explor~1.exe) to explorer.exe. Reboot, voila! The change does remain after uninstall the prog, which makes sense. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks again Dave!

Glad it worked Seti http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
It worked good for me too but I used a simple .bmp as a test, I'm pretty green at editing graphics.
As soon as I get a good one, I may post a screen shot.
Dave
Edit-
