As far as i am aware the only difference is $$$. They are the same physically. The price increase with audio cd-r's is supposedly to help cover copyright issues with audio cd's. I just stick with data cd-r's, usually TDK's http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

edit: Also if they really was a difference why would they label data cd-r's with 650Mb/74Min or 700Mb/80Min ??? if they were data only you wouldn't need to know the audio length of them!

JayMan is right.

There is no difference in the technology of these CD's, while different companies have some fluctuation, the only difference is the label, and Jay's right, the copyright notice http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have a friend with a Phillips home CD burner and he can not use my cdr's. His machine will only use "Audio only" Cd's. I am not sure why. He does make some killer recordings though.

From what I've read the Audio CD-R's have a copywrite "bit" on them that insures that royalty's are paid to record comps. The lack of the "bit" also makes it so that they cannot be burned on high quality reproducers.

You're not necessarily wrong TJ. Just like JCH1 says, it's just a bit or more that identify the "audio" CD. But only to a device that is looking for it.

Same idea (sorta) with old cassette tapes. Remember when you first discovered how the tape deck "know" a normal tape from a Crome one from a Metal one? Just different sized notches in the case. Obviously WAY different technology involved here, but same simple kinda idea is going on.

I'd be curious to know if there is ways to fool the audio players so they think it's an audio CD-R. Anyone?
