A friend of mine who is a part-time gamer is having trouble playing his old games on his new computer that came with windows XP. They ran fine of his win95-98
The message he gets is as follows:
Aborted: this game is not capable of running on windows NT.
Has windows outgrown his old mech warrior2, his old disney games?
Thanks for any insight,
Red

Has he tried using compatibility mode? If you right-click on the executable, go to properties, under the third tab (I think), you can check a box to run this in compatibility mode, and then choose which operating system in the pull down menu. Surprisingly enough, most of the time it works for me!!

I ran xp for a little while, before I went back to 98, Reason Why I went back to 98 is cause I couldn't get some of my older games to run. Always got an error, or the game wouldn't run at all. Which the games ran fine under 98. I think I'm going to wait to see what Microsoft comes out with before upgrading that's for sure

I had the same problem with older games, getting an error messege even in compatability mode.
So I changed back to Win2000 PRO.

Hmm, strange one this, i also had the same problem, with some older games not running (but a few did when i disabled visual themes?),
i went back to m.e. but since getting another 512mb of ram (756 total) and new processor, have reinstalled(XP pro) just out of curiosity, & i havent had any problems,( "YET" ),
funny thing is i have to disable visual themes with my "MICROSOFT - COMMANDER"

now I'm curious, is there problems with the os, or is it that the os is demanding that you have a high speed prossesor and lots and lots of mem???????

On my other PC is a SORRY about this an INTEL P4 at 2GHz with 512 MB of RAM, and I still have the same problem about older games running on XP.
As I have said to friends "SO MUCH FOR COMPATABILITY MODE"
