Hi everyone,

Once again it becomes necessary for me to tap into the brains of those out there that know their stuff.

I have a 56000 bps Data/Fax/Voice modem produced by a company known as "Puretek". Up until recently everything has been honkydory, whenever I have asked for Windows to search for new hardware it has always picked this modem up as a standard modem. When I originally installed this modem I was able to convince it that it was an external 56000 bps Fax/Voice/Data modem. I now have the dilemma where I had reinstalled all my software, for what reason is anybody's guess, now not only does it find a standard modem it also sees itself as an external 56000 bps Fax/Voice/Data modem. If I leave it as a 56000 modem it disconnects every 20 or so minutes for no apparent reason. Oh by the way this modem sits on a telephone line with nothing else on it - no message bank, no call waiting, nothing !!! I also have to have the standard modem driver running to keep the thing from disconnecting and it is as slow as a wet week.

I need to know how to stop the system thinking it is a standard modem, stop it loading the driver for an external 56000 external modem and give it some speed - please help before I have to sacrifice a telephone to the gods. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Have you tried Safe Mode and Device Manager? Sometimes you will get extra devices listed that aren't on your system. Expand the Modems device and take a look see. If you see the culprit, remove it.

Cheers!

Did I hear you right? your computer is picking up and extra external modem?

if this is the case your problem is most likely that you have somehting plugged into the port that it looks for a modem. do you have a fax machine wired to the computer?

If this is not the problem try reinstalling the modem by searching for the specific driver yourself (you have this option during the "found new hardware" installation phase).

Best of luck,

How about getting the real driver for it?
If all else fails, put S10=50S11=50 in the extra settings box.
