Hey guys, I just purchased some artic silver compund today for my 1ghz athlon system that I'm building. This is my first system that I'm building so I was just woundering how to put this stuff on the cooling fan. I have a FOP 32.

Do you put the stuff on the chip or the fan or both (I'm guessing it doesn't matter)?

Do you use a heavy coat or a thin coat?

Do you rub it in with your fingers or just gob it on?

Do you only put it on the "core" of the chip?

Thanks guys!!!

The thermal compound is applied to the chip only in a very thin layer, preferably using something OTHER than a finger, so you don't contaminate with oil.

You will need VERY little thermal paste. The smallest amount you can squeeze is probably too much. That little tube will do 50-100 chips.

One thing, use only alittle it goes VERY far, clean the surfaces first with alittle CRC QD Electronics cleaner (alcohol) on a q-tip or similar, common methods are using a razor blade or a credit card held at an angle ( ---> / ) and sorta buttering it on in a smooth even coat to the cpu's core only, I can never resist getting my fingers in it (no no!!! dont do that) for some reason so I always alcohol THAT finger also just in case I cant keep my self from it...

I like to finger the stuff myself not suppose to though, I guess it has somthing to do with oils. Fingering works for me.
