What are the "alias" items in the I/O resources of my computer?? There are only 3 that are repeating, the SiS 5513 Dual PCI IIDE Controller, the Primary IIDE controller and the SiS 530. I have a AMD K-6 500 w/ 120mg ram and a M599lmr mobo. No, It is not on a network. There are (at last count) 151ea "alias'" of 2, and the dual has 351. Also if this thing runs any slower I will have to get a wheel chair for it, any advice, please.thanks

Please I need some help,I am really having problems with my computer. In addition to the alias's. It is hanging, crashing, and I have reformatted and reinstalled windows two times. Now my e-mail program (Pegasus 3.12) will receive mail but not send. (I feel so isolated :-0 ) Any suggestion on where to look will be appreciated. Oh, I tested the ram, and it is fine. But, with different utilities that diagnose the system, I get conflicting opinions on my hard drive, and even my cpu speed. But the bios seems fine. Could I have the HD partitioned wrong? It has 1 primary C: 2.4mg, and 1 secondary that's 15.2 with the logical d: drive in that, Do I have that wrong? help!

By "alias" I assume you mean "In use by unknown device". This is normal & nothing to worry about -- it shows in all Win9X systems. I'm not sure what's going on -- either those I/O ports are really unused, or Windoz has commondered them for its own uses.
As far as speed/stability, ask yourself this: Is it this way from the get-go, or has it gradually gotten slower/worse? If the latter, then programs you have added after a reinstall are causing it. First, go to Start/ Run & type:
Msconfig
go to the Startup tab & uncheck them ALL. Now reboot. Is it better? If not, you may have some basic hardware problems. If it does, then one or more of the items you unchecked were responsible.

Unfortunatley I mean alias, like this.
x0570-x0577 Alias of SiS 5513 Dual PCI IDE Controller
x0570-x0577 Alias of Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
x07B0 - x07BB Alias of SiS 530
x07C0 - x07DF Alias of SiS 530
I have been looking for 2 weeks for this term. Sadly, I have done all you suggested in the beginning several times. That's why I also did two clean installs the first time I wiped the entire HD to 000's. Well, looks like I better get my old one (now in several pcs.it was going to be my first overclock try.) put back together. I've only had this one for a few weeks and it has never been right. Thanks, and if anyone thinks of anything please let me know.
A program loaded by the install CD causes the slow down you experiencing on the machine. Most likely in the onboard sound I solved this with two other workstations by bypassing the files on the install CD and loading the latest drivers from pcchips. Just download the driver files from their web site and unzip don’t run the install use the update driver in system property to install (I did this from a clean install). When install this way windows will ask for the location of the AP files in a popup window close it without locating the files and finish installing the driver the slowdown you been experiencing should stop.
