I'm having a problem with my Ricoh CD=RW7083A burner in windows XP. In the device manager the drive is listed as a Ricoh RW7083A CDR-W, but in the properties windows sees it as a cd-rom drive and not a recorder. I can't burn cd's within windows xp. I have HOTBURN 2.0 which will burn cd's. I've tried to uninstall the drive, software, etc. and it hasn't done any good. I installed the cd-rom update and then uninstalled the update...no change.
HELP.....please.

Don't know if this will help but I ran the Win XP pre-install to find any compatibilities, there were lots but one relating to the CDRw was Nero Burning Rom 5 was incompatible with XP. Did you run the compatibility programme? maybe it's your software and not the drive?

I had the same problem with my computer, it needed a BIOS update for the motherboard, then I got the CD-RW to work.
XP is like that, some burners won't work without either a firmware upgrade for the burner, or a motherboard BIOS update.
Also make sure that if you are using Roxio EZCD 5, download the 5.02c patch from Roxio first before using the burner, otherwise there will headache. If you are using Nero, you need to use 5.5 (I have tried it in XP Pro and it works).
