I'm thinking about buying a DV-Camcorder.
I especially like the small JVC DV-camcorder.
But I would like to use it for (digital) photos too. (So the quality of those photos shouldn't be too bad.)
Also 1.000$ are the maximum I would spend.
(More something like 600-800$)
What would be the best digital video camcorder I can get.

If I was spending $800 I'd buy the new Sony DCR-TRV720. For $1300 the DCR-PC100(Sony again)with a 1/4" 1.07megapixel CCD.

I'm very pleased with my JVC-DVL805 digital camcorder. $999. Making some great copies of old 8mm family films.(use the firewire port for best quality). It has the option of also taking still photos at 640x480.
Hey canit, where did you find the specs on the Sony? Unfortunatly, I didn't know enough about digital camcorders to do an informed comparison when I was shopping, but was wondering how my JVC compared with similarly price Sony's...

I get a lot of info from Computer Videomaker magazine(http://www.videomaker.com) and Camcorder & ComputerVideo(http://www.CandCV.com). JVC makes great camcorders, look at their GY-DV500(that's an awesome cam). BTW I might have a roadtest of your cam, I will see if I can find it.

I just found the JVC GR-DV X4 for 980$
and the JVC GR-DV X9 for 1280$
Now I know the X9 is better but is it worth the price difference?
Also I want to be able to make digital photos with the camcorder (medium-good quality). I know the X9 is able to do this but I don't know about the X4.
Both:
1/4"-Progressive-Scan-CCD with 800.000 Pixels
2,5" LCD-Colormonitor und color Viewfinder with 180.000 Pixels resolution
-DV-Output (i.Link, IEEE 1394-kompatibel)
-Digital Pictureoutput (RS-232C)
The X9 has more:
-576 lines vertical resolution with Progressive-Scan Modus
-520 Lines horizontal resolution with High-Band-Prozessor
-XGA/VGA-Resolution for pictures(photos) and saves them on MultiMedia-Card
-Digital Soundeffects (MP3)
-200x digital zoom (X4 has only 100x) with Spline-Interpolation
-Separate Printer-Output for digital GV-SP2-Printer
-DPOF-compatible Pictureformat

BTW: Would be nice to get an answer today (Okt. 24) because the offer for the X4 ends tomorrow.
And in case you have wondered because of their high resolutions: they're both PAL-Camcorders not NTSC!

Variable for the price of that 9X you could get ThiemeMD's DVL805($650 at CCI camera city) and a Kodak DC-290($650 at ABE's of Maine)digital camera. ThiemeMD I'm still looking.

The JVC camera is now going for $650? RATS!! I should've waited six months! (although I would have been 3 months behind my deadline). I bet at the current rate of improvments, in another six months they will be giving them away free with any purchase of video editing software....

ThiemeMD I found that review of your camcorder. It's in the Oct 03, 2000(Vol.19 No.17) issue pg.143 by Jan Ozar, might be archived at their site; www.pcmag.com (http://www.pcmag.com)
