Yes, I know my PC is "old" - Windows 95, PII266 with a Fire Gl Pro 1000 video card but I'm interested in replacing the video card to get some better gaming performance.

It appears that since I still run WIndows 95 that I'll be limited in what I can get but I figure that if I can get a card for under $100 I'll be better off than I am now.

From what I've read I'd be willing to experiment with overclocking my current card (if that's possible). Anyone know of a good place to read up on how to do this?

Here's my newbie question - Am I correct in thinking that just because my current card is PCI that I have to stay with cards that are PCI or could I use an AGP card if it's supportable by my system?

Also, other than being concerned about it being compatable with Windows 95 what should I be concerned with before I make a purchase? (ie - I have the specs for the Fire GL so what portions of those specs should I use as a comparision to new cards to know that I'm truely upgrading)

Thanks in advance,

John

You should be able to find a suitable upgrade for about $50 or less.
First, if you HAVE an AGP slot , then this will be the way to go. Less expensive and more available. Just be sure the AGP spec is compatible. Check the mobo manual or look inside. Let us know if you need help with this.
All video cards are based on the GPU. Any of the following should suit your needs:
3DFX's VooDoo2 or 3
Nvidia' TNT2, Geforce2MX 200/400
ATI's Xpert128

All these cards come with more memory than your current card ,eg.16,32 and 64 MB of video memory.
FWIW, I would upgrade to Win98SE. You should be able to do this for also $50 or less.

You can go here (http://www.pricewatch.com/) to search. Hope this helps ya...:p
