Can some one please tell me how to disable the sound card (ESS Solo-1) on the motherboard of my 5726, so I can install my new one (Sound Blaster PCI 512).
Thank you.

If it's an on-board sound card *like most Compaqs are* then you should be able to go into the BIOS and manually disable it. If not, then respond and we'll go from there :)

I looked in the bios and I couldn't disable it that way. I went onto the motherboard and disabled it, but when I put my new sound card in the system keeps restarting.

It might not be a bad idea to first of all recheck the jumpers you switched and perhaps consulting the Compaq website.
If the card is PnP, you could also try to go into Device Manager and disable the existing sound controller, turn off and install the new card, then see if Windows will recognize it. More than likely it will, or at least it did so when I had a similar problem with onboard hardware. Fix the jumpers first, of course, so that you don't keep having this reboot problem :)

Maybe you should flash your bios, to get rid of that problem. What i did was flash it without sound, the onboard sound in the bios gets removed, since you want no sound.
