Which OS are you running?
If it's Win2k, I can't help you.
If it's WinXP, there is a problem with CD-Creator 5 and WinXP.
Roxio has an update available to fix the problem on their web site (www.roxio.com)
If it's Win9x or ME:
- Make sure "Auto Insert Notification" is turned off for the CD burner in Device Manager. The only reason this ought to be turned on for a CD burner is if you're using packet-writing software such as DirectCD.
- While you're there, note the current status of the DMA checkbox, and change it to the opposite setting, reboot and try burning.
Apparently some drives are picky about these settings.

These are suggestions from Philips Tech Support
My sound cable is correctly connected. Both drives recognize and play back the original Audio CD
Digital Playback is checked (but box is Greyed Out)
I've swithed the cables/jumpers etc to the recomended IDE settings
Disabling UDMA causes Easy CD to fail to recognize the Blank CDR and it aborts the recording.
The other steps confuse me and are probably ineffective.
I tried recording again and everything went ok according to the software but as usual there was no sound on playback
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below you'll find a list with tips how to optimize your Windows settings in order to enable proper playback.
Please note that in most cases, the CD-ROM drive is connected via a sound cable to the CD audio in of a soundcard. This is needed when you want to playback an audio CD and hear the sound of it from the soundcard. If this cable is not connected to your CD-RW drive, then you can put an audio CD in it and start the Windows CD player, but you won't hear anything. There is however a way to enable audio playback, without this cable, and that is as under:
- Start -> settings -> control panel -> multimedia -> CD audio - select your CD-RW drive and in the lower part of the screen, you'll see a check box and an option to enable digital audio playback. Check this option, reboot your system and now it should be possible to
playback audio via your CD-RW drive.
Windows installation tips:
IDE settings
- Primary master: harddisk
- Primary slave: CD-ROM/DVD-ROM
- Secondary master: your Philips CD-RW drive
- Secondary slave: any other IDE device
BIOS settings
- Disable UDMA in the BIOS for the channel to which you attach the recorder
- Lower stepwise the PIO mode for the recorder in the BIOS until reaching optimum performance/stability
- Increase the wait states on the pci-bus in the BIOS until reaching optimum performance/stability
- In some cases using old ATA harddisk running invalid ATA protocols the only solution is to remove the harddisk and replace for a newer model in order to obtain a stable system
DOS-configuration
- Do not load the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files on boot up (rename them), no Network drivers, no TSRs, anti-virus programs, or screen savers.

typical technical support dribble. they must think you have a dinosaur of a computer. you should never share a cd-rom on the same channel as a hard disk as the ata controller will only work at the cd-roms speed. windows media player 7 and up does not require you to have an audio cable it will read an audio digitaly if enabled. as you are running windows ME you need not disable autoexec and config as they are already bypassed in windows ME to enable the system to start up faster.
best off try the NERO TRIAL if that dont work send the writer back

Spoken to Tech Support at Jungle.
They have given me an RMA and are sending a replacement.

Interested to read about the problems you have had with Philips PCRW1610K drive. I have experienced just the same with this drive and software - purchased at the New Year. Was given the exact same advice by Philips Tech Support. I have an AMD K6-2(3DNow) 500 MHz system with Win98SE as O/S. I too am asking the supplier for a replacement.
I would be very interested to know if the replacement drive functions any better, IanA.
Regards
Hope you didn'y buy from Jungle, the CDRW was collected on Tue 8/1 and they have been conspicuously silent since (no reply to a chaser e-mail this Tue)
I'll post an update when/if I make any progress.
Turns out my PC was delinquent, not the burner.
Many thanks to thekemp for rebuilding my software.:)
