I've been doing a little o/cing tonight just 450 K6/2 @ 500, when i noticed the temp was a little high (about 46'c), did a few tests and seemed ok. So i thought i'd connect to the internet, as soon as my password and username had been varified my pc just reset!! The V3 bios logo came on and the mobo bios started and windows continued to load!!
Shutdown and put CPU back to 450, rebooted nothing wrong at all put internet on fine, no probs.
Until i got cut off and had to re-connect, as soon as it varified my usename and password it just reset again. But when it re-booted connected first time again!!
This has been happening all night and i don't know why? Any ideas?

I have had the case off all night and a temp of 33'c at 450 since but it still keeps resetting!

Can anyone help?? Have i naffed the CPU up?

Running Win98 SE, I.E 5.1, office 2000, Black ice defender, v3 tools etc...

Mine did the same thing when I had ZoneAlarm installed, uninstalled it, everythings fine.

Your CPU is fine, don't worry.
If the chip is damaged it would not start at all.

Your problem can be found within the display-settings. Did you change anything recently?
Or did you go to Windows-update?

I can't believe that Zonelab has something to do with it.

I`ve had this same problem too. I happened when I changed my mobo a while back.

I removed the old mobo, put in the new one, and installed all the drives and cards etc.

As soon as I tried connecting to my isp, and the password dialogue came up......ping! Off went the power. No shutdown or anything, just like pushing the power button on the front of the case!

Turned out to be the actual modem. It wasn`t seated properly into the PCI slot. I even swapped slots, and it did the same! When I did up the retaining screw that holds the card in, it was pulling it out on the far end a little bit. I had to bend the metal plate that the card is attached to a little bit, and now the screw doesn`t dislodge the card at all.

Strange but true..........

completly remove the drivers for your modem. power down your system completly and then reinstall them.
