I think i've posted a few times about some config help...but now I'm getting more into it, and now that I actually have money.....

I need to know what you guys recommend, I've looked at all the sites I can find, and looked at the AMD recommended lists, so don't tell me to keep looking around...

Need to know if t-bird if worth extra cost as appossed to Duron...

Need to know if anyone has model #s for good Heatsink and fans

Planning on using ABIT KT7-RAID... Good for everyone? would like to do some LIGHT overclocking, nothing major... Probably start with 750-800 Mhz, may want additional 50-100 MHz out of it... may want to keep that in mind for heatsink and fans...

Probably run Geforce-2 GTS 32 MB AGP vid,

not sure about sound, any recommendations? sound- I'm not doing anything too heavy there, would like to be able to get some good MP3 sounds out at least though...

Need to know anout RAM too, would like 256 more or less, MUST be at least 128 though...

Also, need a good case...preferably cheap case considering I'm going to cut some holes in it... Must (obviously) be AMD approved, would like the PS w/ it... need probably 250 at least, 300 pref. If you can find it, need PS to intake from the bottom... not front...

So if any one you can help, thanks a bunch..and if anyone has an AMD athlon/t-bird/duron config already made, I'd be happy to see it here if possible... I'm on a budget, actual budget figures TBA AFTER completion... and if there is anything else that I need to know, tell me please... I like to overlook things a lot...

Hello.

The performance difference between the Duron and the Thunderbird is about 9%. So a 800 Mhz Duron will perform approximately like an 870 Mhz Thunderbird. Of course, with overclocking, you can bridge that gap. Since the duron costs significantly less than the Thunderbird, and based on your needs, the Duron seems the better of the two. A good heatsink/fan is the Super Orb by Thermaltake or the Globablwin FOP38. Either will cost you about $25, but it'll help keep that chip nice and cool. Oh, and FYI, the Globalwin FOP38 is LOUD. Ask anyone here who has one.

That's a good motherboard for overclocking. You'll probably have to connect the L1 bridges on your processor, as the old school ones are probably already sold. There's a good guide here: http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/

As for the sound card, the Sound Blaster Live! series is the best, IMO. And get RAM with CAS latency 2, and PC-133. CAS 2 is a good performance boost, and I also believe that with that motherboard, you can run the RAM at FSB+PCI (133). It'd be a nice performance bump for a minimal cost.

hallam2003, hows it going.
Ive had both the Duron and T-Bird. I like my T-Bird the best, fast. The Abit KT-7 Raid is the best Socket-A out there it has all the opptions. If you do some overclocking, which your Mobo is just dyeing to do, Get a Fop-38 heatsink. If not O.Cing get a Fop-32, both from Global Win. As far as sound, dont know, I use a cheap Soundblaster 16 card, works fine. Your on your own for a cheap case, heres mine. http://www.inflowdirect.com/coolallalala.html

When you get your case go for a 300 PSU.
As far as Ram Get 133 not 100. I use Mushkin http://www.mushkin.com/cgi-bin/Mushkin.filereader?39df66641c51721a273f0a00010205c 1+EN/products/990489
