RAM Performance

Hello. My computer is not recognizing the amount of RAM that is actually installed on my computer. At the moment I have 896Megs of RAM available, but the computer is only using the default amount of 640M. I am running Win982nd. How do you reconfigure the system and make windows recognize and use all available RAM installed. I have aready contacted the vendor for a splash update for my motherboard and one is available, but the tech said this would not do it. Please advise.
