This is really making me mad. I have Windows XP Professional Corporate and a Hercules Prophet II MX 32mb with Dual-Display Video. It has worked in XP for a while without any problems (except for an occasional game freeze). But now when I am just surfing the web or doing nothing, my desktop is idle, I get a blue screen telling me my drivers caused an Infinite Loop error. I have tried the earliest drivers I saw in the Drivers section of the Hercules web site (6.34?) for Win2000, and the lastest (21.40? i dont remember and too lazy to look) that says it is designed for Win2000/WinXP. I also tried non-Hercules drivers. I tried using the Nvidia drivers, same result. I am totally stumped on this problem, and it is really starting to **** me off A LOT. If anyone could please help I would greatly appreciate it. And for information purposes, i was sure to remove the drivers before i installed the new ones (or the older ones).

ok i fresh installed windows98se and it is STILL freezing. I dont know what is wrong, maybe the card itself. Anyone else that has a Hercules ProphetII MX 32mb with Dual-Display Video, please post here and let me know if you have had any problems like this.

I had the same problem when I installed xp.I reformated and then did a clean install of xp.I then installed the new drivers (release 23.11) and that took care of it.I don`t think xp likes to be upgraded from .I spent several weeks trying diff drivers etc. with my 98 upgrade to no avail.I also used the 6 floppy disk set up I got off the win xp website.Good luck <J>

I am talking about installing xp alone. If you have the same problem with the 98 se os installed then,I would say you have a video card problem.I did a clean install of xp using the set up disks. Also, what command are you using for the reformat?I always use c:/s/u this will completely erase the data from your hard drive.By the way is the bsd you are receiving "display driver caught in infinite loop"and if you do error reporting it identifies the driver as nv_4 then it is the exact same problem that I had and you can fix it.Did you go to your card manufacturer and check their forum, this has been a common problem.<J>

i format by typing format C:
i dont need system files or anything.

yes i have checked the forums at hercules.com and I posted the problem there too. no solutions. btw i did do a fresh install of xp before i went for a fresh install of win98se. same thing...

I am no dos expert but, I believe you need to use the /u command or else everything is not erased from the hard drive.I also updated my vc bios off the hercules website.I read somewhere that you can increase your I/O voltage ( if your mobo allows this) .1 or .2 volts and give a try. I really don`t have any other ideas. If I were you I would reformat and at the a prompt I would use the command c:/s/u then reinstall 98se with the driver on the prophet IImx cd.If you still get a bsd you may have a bad card.If you get it working on 98se it will work on xp.Goodluck<j>
