I am working on a scanner problem for a friend. He has a new Gateway computer and we installed two separate scanners on his system and both cause the same problem.
When things are scanned a bunch of colored streaks appear running from top to bottom. These appear regardless if scanning a blank page or a real document.
Scanner 1 is a Umax 1220u (usb)
Scanner 2 is a Visioneer 7600 (parallel Port)
I have removed and reinstalled software for both with the same results. Both scanners work fine on another pc.
I am out of ideas please help.

Just a shot in the dark, but could it be a problem with the video card or its drivers? You might try uninstalling and reinstalling them. At first I thought that it might be the port itself, but the I realized one was paralell and the other USB. Strange. Best of luck, and let us know when you get it figured out!

These line also print on paper and dont see how video could contribute to that. I could be wrong though. Everything else functions great. I wonder if it could be the twain drivers?

Perhaps the OS has out of date drivers, or the drivers are inferior to the OS on the machine, please specify.
BTW- for future reference, this should be in "Technical Support."
Best of luck,

It appears that you are getting bad scans, meaning that the data is getting corrupted. First let's try solve the problem on the IDE interface scanner.
What mode is the IDE scanner running on? Is it SPP, EPP, ECP, or ECP + EPP?
Go into your BIOS and try setting the Parallel Port Mode to ECP + EPP 1.7.

Its on a Gateway system running Win 98 SE. Currently the lpt port is set to ECP. However I tried Bi-Dir, SPP and ECP all three. It made no difference. Windows picked up each port as I changed them.
You are right TJ. Should be in Tech Sup.
Thanks
