My job involves working weekends acting as sort of a security guard ensuring the computer systems don't blow up. This means two 12 hour shifts of almost nothing. I bought a laptop to ensure it wasn't too boring, but I crave internet access. I can't link up to the network at work and there's security in place that kills all access to the internet that I do have, being limited to a few web sites and telnet.
I figured I'd try to find a way to hook up my laptop wirelessly. I live in Idaho, so there's none of those fancy systems that Seattle, Los Angeles, etc have, so I thought I might be able to use a cell phone. Seems it's a bit complicated while it seems the system is so unpopular I've yet to find any decent info about if it's even worth using. (I'd hate to go and buy the cell phone, sign of for a year of service, then find out the best I can get is 14.4 or worse)

Does anyone know anything about this and if it's even worth getting into? I'd like to be able to use battle.net and DAoC and EQ while I'm waiting for the hours to pass. Specific info about Boise, Idaho would be great, though I'd just like to know if this stuff works alright.

I have use a cellular phone connection to dial into an ISP and it was painfully slow... about 9.6~14.4. Too slow for practical use in my eyes...especially if you pay "per minute" for the cellular.
