Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : can't wake up my system
i have an epox 8kha+. i don't understand all the power saving features in the bios. i have it set to pos1 (not to str). i also have win 98 SE, which has it's own power saving dialog. i have it set to put the monitor to sleep after 10 minutes and the hard disk after 30 minutes, but the system is set to never go to sleep.
when the monitor turns off i can wake it up with the mouse, but after a longer time, i can't wake it for anything, so i have to reset it. can anyone help? i'm not interested in max power saving, just convenience. thanks:confused:

Airy,
I don't have an answer for why the monitor won't wake up. I set my 8Kha+ to str and it has the same problem as yours. I avoided the monitor from going to sleep by changing the settings in system/properties/advanced so that the monitor would not go to sleep. It would be nice if the manual would explain this in more detail. Good luck. Biglaker
thanks for the reply. anyone else have an epox 8kha+ that works correctly? what settings are you using?
thanks

I am not for sure but i believe that once the hard disk goes off it can take a bit to come back on. Sometimes it doesnt. Someone expand on this please???

I don't have the same motherboard, but have experienced the same scenario w/ 2 other ones. The problem can be isolated in Windows easily. There is a text (.txt) file, and a diagnostic utility, hidden in Windows ME (pretty sure 9x has it too) that logs the particular driver that caused it to hang in sleep mode, etc. I don't remember the filename, but you can find it in their online Knowledge Base at microsoft.com
Hope that helps, it did for me!
Email if that wasn't very clear...

i found one called "power management trouble shooter" in the tools folder of my win 98 cd. the documentation says it will find the driver responsible for not allowing a computer to enter suspend mode. i might try it and see if it will find the one responsible for not letting it wake up.
the funny thing is that many times my system will wake up fine with the mouse. other times, not.
the other funny thing is that when it's frozen, to turn it off i have to hold the power key in for
4 seconds to get it to power down. the usual push of the button won't turn it off.
i'm suspecting it my be my creative modem, since my system went to sleep during a download and i couldn't wake it. i'll test this too.

It very well might be the modem; I had the exact same problem with a creative sound blaster live 5.1 card. It doesn't use WDM drivers, but uncertified ones which do not support s3 (or lower) sleep modes. As far as the power button is concerned, the reason you have to hold it down is that you have an ACPI system, or equivalent, which "tells" windows to shut down your power supply when pressed; if windows isn't responding, this won't work. But, holding it down manually forces the power supply off. You can change what the button does (sleep, power off, etc.) in BIOS or in the power settings.
