Ahh!! I can' decide what to do! I want to build my dream machine, but everyday I read up about new stuff that is going to blow away the stuff that came out like just a few days ago!

I just read about the new 760 chipset and now....

I'm pretty set on geting this new Athlon with the 266 bus and a Mobo with the 760 chipset so I can get DDR... however, of course, they have some stupid problem and have to delay the arrival! Well anyway www.micronpc.com (http://www.micronpc.com) is selling theses!? They look really tempting and they also have pretty good prices but I though they haven't even shipped out the 760 chipset yet, b/c of the delay?? Well what do you'll think I should do??

I was gonna get a 12x cd writer but now...

I think i'll wait for the mulit layer cd burner things to come out

I was gonna get a chrome orb but now...
I'll wait for the super orb

This list goes on! AM i going to always be waiting for the next best thing?!

Here is a list of what I was just about to order, before I read the thing on the 760 chipset with DDR ram.

1ghz Thunderbird Athlon

Super Orb (When is this coming out and where can I buy it, polycon?)

Abit KT7-Raid MoBo

Plextor 12x10x32 Atapi CD-RW

4 (yes 4) 30 gig 7200 ATA-100 HDs (For use w/ raid) I am going to do DV editing so I need massize space and fast writing.

Cheapest 56k modem I can find.. Unless you'll have one that you really reallt like

1.44 Floppy Drive (Duh)

1 512meg PC-133 unbuffered non-Ecc Ram

Internal 250 Zip Drive

Windoze Me (should I stick with 98?)

Ups Power Supply (from compu-plus only $66 bucks)

Build about two steps down from the top-end in most choices. The very leading edge stuff will command a terrible premium for mostly minor performance gains.
Keep your dream machine in your dreams, it's cheaper. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

ps: take two aspirin and call me in the morning. I had to respond to this message, Over.

Build one today with all of the best, two days later it already is outdated! Do what you can afford and then start saving all over again!

I always go with the last best thing. it's usually more value for dollar and then you get the latest drivers with all the bugs worked out by those of you guz on the bleeding edge.

I was wondering if you lost sight of what a computer realy is. It's a tool. It is many tools in one. Do you need to keep up with all the junk that hits the market? Do you need the prestigous position of being a guinnie pig for the manufacturers?

No matter what you do you will fall behind. Buy a computer or upgrade every 2 years. Get some work done. Having money doesn't mean you have to spend it.
A hardware junkie is still a junkie.
Build something super powerful, very stable, very impressive to your friends, be very happy for 2 years.

Maybe that was 3 cents

Cheers!

You must have a lot of money to spend. I see you got the Klipsch speakers http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

What do you plan on doing with this? You only need the Platinum if you're a musician and want to plug stuff into your computer.

What is the total cost?

Yeah im just sticking with what i got for my comp im not scared of all the new stuff which will give you a .00035% increase of speed. If you start to fell left out cuz you have an old comp OVERCLOCK IT!!!!!!!!! you dont have to buy every new thing that comes out on the market and plus some of that stuff may have Hype and they say its gonna change the world and its the best whatever it may be then .00001 of a second later theres some better and then they say whatever the old one was Obsolete. so just buy a comp and stick with it!

Dont burn a Hole in your pocket!

agree with voogru, let the rich guys test out the new stuff, youll get far more honest pros and cons from folks here than from the industry, I bought my value card, and other things, because of all the yeas on this board, I will stick to win98 for the same reason, many folks are having problems with ME.

The more you spend the harder you're gonna fall when the next Computer Shopper hits the mailbox!

Good luck.

If you're one of the fortunate few to whom money is really no object, then by all means go for it!!! And by the way, keep me in mind for disposal of the "old" parts when you upgrade it a week later!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Otherwise, I'd agree with Underclocked's advise.

I think you really need to remember what your doing here man... You probably just need a regualr old computer. Sure if you have the money, then you can make it a nice high-end one. And it's perfectly fine to have a passion and want the computer to perform more in that area(i.e. graphics) But what your doing, going for the best of everything is just wrong man... It would be one thing if you built a new system every few weeks just because there is something new out there...but you don't even buy it, you just wait for the next thing... think you need to make a nice system, and be content with that one. Then, when you really feel that you need a new one, then go ahead and do it...
