Hi, i am having a problem with Windows Media Player.

Whenever i attempt to view an .mpeg, .avi, or .mov it will display the picture for 2 seconds, and then displays a green staticy/wavey image.

When you pause the file and minimize, you can see the still image.

I have downloaded the latest version of Media Player and my video drivers. ANy help apprecaited. THanks

Hello, I am using windows media player7 as well.... just thought you should know that I have a similar situation with mine in that when I minimize the player during a download the image remains on the screen, at least for a few moments.... I believe that we should consider that normal, due to lag with the download, although I am not sure. As far as the green wavy image........ I am not so sure????.

Have you tried using the previous version, V.6.4?

Personally, I didn't like V.7.0 beacuse it loads so much slower due to the HTML interface on the screen of Media Player V.7.0. I used V.7.0 for a month and went back to V.6.4 on my Win2K. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

There's a Windows Media Player folder under the Programs folder.

Two things to try.

-Replace this folder and it's contents with a folder (with the same version of Mp)from another system which Mp is working correctly.

Or

-In the said folder, run setup (if avaliable) and choose to download and reinstall all the components and codecs for Mp.

If MP's problem is isolated to mpeg playback, where mpegs don't play at all on Win98 or ME, I know replacing the folder will correct this. I would think, the second option should give similar results.

Whether either of these "fixes" applies in this situation, I can't say with certainty that it will. It should be worth a try.

If the problem is not due to software incompatibilities or hardware driver related issues, and instead, caused by corrupt codecs or a faulty installation of Mp, the above method should fix the problem.

Or as NDC mentioned, you can try the previous version of Mp, if the you're usng version 7.

~It would be unlikely that hardware acceleration is disabled because you would have noticed it elsewhere. Might check it.
