My old Abit BX6 mother board fried. What problems can I expect installing a new P4 i845 board in the system?
Any help appreciated. New MB arriving shortly.
All the harddrives, tape, and CD's are SCSI using an AHA-2940UW card.
My first thoughts are to boot up in SAFE mode and uninstall all the card hardware, then reinstall with latest drivers. I have purchased a new AGP 2.0 compliant 4X graphics card.

;) Start fresh when building a new system. Of course, back up any important files you might need before you re-install your operating system (especially Winnt4). Be sure to have the latest Service Packs (sp6a). If you have upgraded your Internet Explorer
to IE6 you will need the high encription Service Pack 6a (128 Bit),
the standard encription Sp6a will not install with IE6. As far as i can see, NT4 should work ok on a P4. Why not upgrade to XP or WIN2k, it is more user friendly and faster and stable. Good Luck

Murray - I'm just putting a new mother board under the old system. I don't plan on reinstalling the system. That's what I want to avoid. I want to fire up the existing Win NT system with the new motherboard in place.
I don't see why you shouldn't try... What've you got to lose? However...
Most likely, that's going cause some problems or even if you do get the system booted to NT4 without and errors, it will prove to be unstable... Many things differ from your old mainboard and the new. For one thing, the chipset itself is different which has different features...

I realize the chipsets are different. But, will that difference cause problems? If so, then what in particular?
