Hi, just a quicky, should i tick the "DMA" box in the properties settings for my burner or not? what advantages/disadvantage will i get?
My system: (don't laugh too hard, i know it is really ****ty but am saving up for a killer system at the moment)
-pentium 133 (yes thats right, a PI, they do still exist)
-64MB RAM
-2Gig HD (i dunno how i survive)
-2MB S3 trio64v+
-12MB voodoo2
-16x CD-ROM
-ricoh MP7060A CD-RW burner (4x/6x/24x)
-SB16 soundcard
etc....

Thanx,
JayMan

Just in addition, should "sync data" be ticked also??? and what about "disconect"
Currently both my cd-rom and cd-rw have the same settings, i.e.: disconect = ticked, auto insert = ticked, DMA = unticked, sync data = unticked. What should be ticked and unticked for best and most reliable performance.
Thanx,
JayMan

Disconnect is the only thing checked by default for regular CDRoms. Try checking the DMA box(s). It gives better performance (not really faster, but less CPU burden). However, this can occasionally cause lockups w/older systems. It used to w/my CDRom, but newer IDE drivers have eliminated the problem. Also, disable the "Auto Insert" unless you really want it -- it adds a fair burden onto your system.

I have the MP7060A and had some buffer probs for the first time just recently. I had done a format then clean install of win and the DMA had not been checked by default(All the other times the h/drives & Cd's had been) I checked it and didnt have the probs again. It may not have been the prob but its working fine again so it does me.
Auto insert? Thats just the option to have the setup screen etc come up automatically when you place a cd in it. I have it off on both cd units (just my personal pref ok) If you check/uncheck it you need to reboot for it to take effect.
